Predeceased by his first wife Dorothy Morcombe (1972); second wife Alice Houldsworth (1993); son Miles Cullum (1996); and son-in-law Don Korchinski (2003); his parents, Joseph and Puah Florence Cullum; and his siblings, Adah, Fudd, Nell, Kit, Matt, and Ken. Stan is survived by a large and loving family and friends who will miss his presence in their lives. Left to mourn are daughters, Linda Cullum and Sandy Korchinski; son Jim Houldsworth (Louise); daughter-in-law Jillian Roulet; grandson Jonathan Cullum; and special family, Denise and Bill Barker and Elaine and Glen Volkmar. Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his sisters-in-law, Evelyn Cullum of Calgary and Alice Cullum of Cranbrook, BC and their families also survive Dad. A much-loved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, Dad was a hard worker and a man of many careers beginning with fire fighting and road building in his hometown of Grandview, MB. He moved to Winnipeg as a young man, where he managed apartment blocks, Picardy's Restaurant and trained as a welder. During the Second World War, he built fighter aircraft engines at McDonald Aircraft. In the late 1940s Stan changed careers again, working as a warehouseman for Canadian General Electric. He retired at 60 as a distribution clerk for Western Canada. Never one to sit still for long, Stan took a variety of temporary jobs until settling down in the office of ExCan Grain, a job he enjoyed very much. Walking eight miles a day kept him fit and in touch with developments in Winnipeg. He retired for a second time at 72 to care for his ailing wife Alice. A devoted husband to both Dorothy and Alice, he cared for them with love during their final illnesses. Dad was an independent soul, remaining in his own home, tending his plants and shovelling snow until last year. He was an avid reader and loved watching and commenting on local politics. Many thanks to the compassionate staff of St. Boniface ICU for making Dad's last days comfortable and to the cheerful and supportive staff at Charleswood Care Centre who helped Dad in many ways during the preceding months. Special thanks to Jake Peters for the quality time he gave to Dad, visits and conversations were much appreciated. According to Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance on Monday, January 24 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow on Tuesday, January 25 at Brookdale Cemetery in Holland, MB. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a Manitoba based charity. We love you and miss you, Dad. You will be in our hearts forever. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
