Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH SCALETTA Surrounded by his family, Joe passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on Wednesday, January 19, 2005. Joe will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife Pat and daughter Karen. He is also survived by his brothers, Ignatius (Shirley), Sebastian (Marie), and Augie (Marie-Jeanne); several aunts and uncles, and many nieces and nephews. Joe was born on August 23, 1935 and grew up in St. Boniface. In his younger years, he was employed at Eaton's. During college, he worked on the CN Railway. He went to college at Bemidji State University and received his phys-ed teaching degree. He participated in college hockey and made lifelong friends there. He moved to Minneapolis and taught at Benilde High School. While living in Minneapolis, he met Pat, the love of his life. They married in Waseca, MN, then moved to Winnipeg. In 1968, he began teaching at John W. Gunn Jr. High. He spent 25 years doing what he loved - teaching physical education. He earned the respect of students and fellow teachers, because of his work ethic, sense of fair play, loyalty and friendship. Joe was an active member of St. Bernadette Parish. He taught catechism, helped out at mass, and was the financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus for many years. His passions were family, golf, hockey, and bowling. He lived a very active and full life. Joe was predeceased by his father Salvatore, and his mother Concetta. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, January 25 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette Church, 820 Cottonwood Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated also at the church at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26 with Fr. Fred Olds celebrant. Interment and reception will follow at Glen Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Pallbearers will be Augie Scaletta, Joe Collins, Jules Normandeau, Adam Ferman, Dean Scaletta, Todd Scaletta, Tim O'Connell, and Sam Scaletta. Honorary pallbearers are Claude Leveque, Frankie Scaletta, Frank DeMarchi and the Windsor Park Knights of Columbus. The family wishes to thank the doctors and the nurses at St. Boniface Hospital in the ER and on 4B for taking such good care of him. Thank you also to family and friends for the many expressions of concern and support. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of one's choice. I was a student at John W Gunn and Joe was one of the Best Phys Ed teachers I ever knew ! I was so lucky to have him as my teacher and will never forget him . We were old neighbours. I remember being over and helping out with the yardwork as a kid. Joe and family were always friendly and very helpful to my family. I will always remeber his smile and kind words. I am very sorry for you loss. - Posted by: Barbara Peereault (Acquaintance) on: Jan 24, 2005
