LEONIDA KRESCHUK 1922 - 2005 It is with profound sadness that the family announces the untimely passing of Leonida Kreschuk, wife of the late Paul Kreschuk, on Friday, January 21, 2005 at Seven Oaks Hospital, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born Leonida Matusiewicz in Volyn, Ukraine on February 28, 1922. Leonida immigrated to Canada with her family in 1948 in search of a better life. After settling in Winnipeg, Leonida immediately went to work in the garment industry as a seamstress in order to help supplement the family income. Left to cherish her memory is her only daughter Marusia, son-in-law Rt. Rev. Mitred Archpriest Bill Wasyliw, grandsons, Taras (Christina) and Marko (Jac-Lynn) and two beloved great-grandsons, Nicholas (21 months) and Alexander (16 months). Leonida was predeceased by her husband Paul in 1989; her parents, Stefan and Nadya Matusiewicz; and two brothers, Anatole and Leon. Leonida was a faithful and lifelong member of St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Sobor where she was a member of the Ukrainian Women's Organization. Shortly after the repose of her husband Paul, she moved into St. Mary's Villa Senior's Residence where she resided until her sudden passing. Leonida had a passion for embroidery and spent many hours, while her sight permitted, creating beautiful pieces to give to family and friends in her memory. While her health permitted, Leonida also enjoyed spending time outdoors at the family cottage in Spruce Bay on Lake Winnipeg. Her greatest joy was her family. She especially doted on her grandsons and was very proud of their personal and professional accomplishments. In this small close-knit family her loss has created a void and she will be dearly missed. Prayers will be offered on Tuesday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Sobor, 820 Burrows Ave. Officiating will be His Eminence Archbishop John of Edmonton and the Western Diocese, Acting Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, assisted by Fr. Jaroslaw Buciora, pastor. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in mother's memory to the Sobor of St. Mary the Protectress. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT! May Her Memory Be Eternal! CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
