ELSIE ELIZABETH GALLAGHER Peacefully on Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Lions Manor Personal Care Centre our beloved mother and much loved Amma passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Her memory will be treasured by her four children, Ed (Dianne), Joe (Judy), Diana (Tom) and Daniel. She was a very special Amma to Ross (Grace), Heather (Mike), Michelle (mother, Barb); Lisa (Jim), Danny (Therese), Clarke (Tara); Dena (Jarret), Tami (Matt), Michael (Gen); Stephen, Conrad, Jackson (mother, Lyn); and great-Amma to Jordan, Megan, Owen, Ashley, Jacob, Ethan, Sara, Sydney and Abby. She is also survived by her sister Barbara (Paul); sisters-in-law, Mamie, Marion, Marge and Frances; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Edward; parents, Maria and Sam Sigurdson; four brothers and two sisters. Mom was born in Lundar on April 10, 1919 and lived most of her life in Winnipeg. She was very proud of her Icelandic heritage. She was a founding member of the West End Credit Union and actively involved in Prairie Crocus Toastmistress. Mom pursued a career in real estate which she continued following their move to British Columbia in 1974. In addition, for 18 years she served as returning officer for the federal riding of Fraser Valley West. Family and friends meant everything to Mom and she took great delight in visits from her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and longtime friends. The coffee was always on and you were always made to feel welcome. Mom returned to Winnipeg in 1997 and since May 2000 was a resident of the Lions Manor Personal Care Centre. The family would like to thank the professional, dedicated staff of the 3rd floor for the loving, compassionate care given to our mother. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 26, at Saint Theresa's Roman Catholic Church, 3597 Main St., West St. Paul, MB, with Msgr. Louis McCloskey officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R2C 4G2, or Multiple Sclerosis Society, 4th Floor, 141 Bannatyne Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 0R3. God knew that it was time to rest, The hills so hard to climb, So he closed her weary eyelids, And whispered Peace be Thine. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
