FRANCESCO VERSACE April 16, 1913 - January 23, 2005 Peacefully at the Grace Hospital, on January 23, 2005, as the sun was rising, Francesco Versace was called by the Lord to also rise up to the heavens to join his beloved wife Antonia. Francesco was born on April 16, 1913 in Delianova, Reggio Calabria, Italy and came to Canada on October 7, 1967 to join the rest of his family. Francesco leaves to mourn his passing three sons and three daughters, daughter Giuseppina (Antonio), Princi; daughter Teresa (Antonio) Pugliese in Hamilton, ON; son Antonio (Angela); daughter Giovanna (Antonio) Torquato; son Natale (Melina); son Giovanni (Domenica). Also surviving are one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, Italy, France, United States and Australia. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, January 25, at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., with Mass of the Resurrection being celebrated on Wednesday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m. in the church. The celebrant will be Fr. Sam Argenziano. Entombment will be at the Family Crypt, Assumption Chapel Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Saverio Torquato, Frank Torquato, Frank Versace, Armando Versace, Maria Versace and Gianfranco Versace. The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Albi and to the Home Care giver Sheila Fronde as well as the staff at the Grace Hospital for the excellent care and support provided. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Francesco to St. Amant Centre, 440 River Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2M 3Z9 or to a charity of one's choice.
