Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUSSELL ALBERT HANSEN November 22, 1953 - January 23, 2005 It is with extreme sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, son and brother Russell Hansen, at the age of 51 years. Russell grew up in Berens River and Gimli, MB. He later pursued a career as a commercial fisherman in Big Black River in 1971, where he met the love of his life, Sophia Fontaine, whom he married in 1972. They resided in Big Black River and Poplar River until the time of his death. Besides fishing, Russell liked trapping, camping and reading. He also liked to visit with the elders, whom he held in high regard. He enjoyed listening to the stories told by them. He is survived by his mother Pearl Hansen; wife Sophia; children, Irwin (Candace), Lloyd, Benny, Trisha, Terrisietta (Hansen) and Russell (Mason); grandchildren, Irwin, Keifer, Kurt, Kelsey, Shayleen, Ashley (Hansen) and Rhys (Mason); two brothers, Ingamar/Murray (Floreen) and Lindsay (Josephine); one sister Luciel Oatway (Kent); in-laws, William (Brenda), Clarence (Amanda), Louis, Elva (Jimmy), Virginia (Donald), Margie (Wes), Beatrice (Brad), Matilda (Tom) and Frieda; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Russell was predeceased by his older brother Lloyd; his father Murray; father-in-law William; and most recently, his mother-in-law Mary in January 2004 - whom he missed very much. Wake services will be held on Tuesday, January 25 from 7:00 p.m. to midnight at the Aboriginal Funeral Chapel, 724 Selkirk Ave., Winnipeg, Wednesday, January 26 and Thursday, January 27 at the Poplar River Community Church, Poplar River, MB.
