HILDA WEST (nee NEWBERY) It is with much sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Hilda West on Sunday, January 23, 2005 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 90 years. She was predeceased by her husband Everett in 1982 and by both parents while still a teenager. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children, Norma, Judy (Charles) Appelt, and Warren (Marlene); grandchildren, Blake (Leslie) Appelt, Trina (Al) McGregor, Liana Van Mol, Wade Appelt, Meeghan West, Daryn West; great-grandchildren, April McGregor, Allysa and Jessica Appelt. Mom was devoted to her family. She worked alongside her husband for over 40 years as a partner in different grocery store ventures, while at the same time raising her family. She demonstrated strength, dedication and love within her family and involved herself as much as possible in their lives and activities. She never turned down an invitation to spend her time with us. We are truly grateful for the memories she has left us with and the lasting impact she has had on each one of us. We are so thankful to be able to call her our Mom and Nana. In her later years she enjoyed the company of a few close friends doing crafts, seeking out bargains, or just visiting and having a cup of tea. She always enjoyed being with younger people and hearing about their families and activities. She was a very special person to all those who knew her. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital for her care over the past seven weeks, to Major Gordon Jarvis for his support and to those friends who have expressed concern and asked about her and offered support during her hospital stay. A private family service will be held. No flowers please. If desired donations can be made to the University of Manitoba; re: The McCrorie-West Family Fellowship for Alzheimer Research, which Hilda was key in helping establish, and forwarded to the Department of Private Funding, 179 Continuing Education Complex, Winnipeg, MB R3T 2N2, or a charity of your choice.
