Date of Passing: Jan 24, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDINNY (JOHN GEORGE) JACQUES With the heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of Dinny Jacques on January 24, 2005. Dinny was born in Winnipeg in 1941. He grew up and lived his entire life in the community of West Kildonan. In his youth, playing hockey was his number one priority. By his 20s he began coaching youth hockey and spent years teaching young people the art of playing a good game. He found out what the game was like on the other side of the boards in his later years when he began refereeing. His first jobs were at the Main Bakery and Eatons. When he decided to be an electrician he joined on at Kelvin Electric, Bubbs Electric, Kummin Shippman and Comstock Canada Ltd. Most of his career was spent as an Electrical Inspector for the City of Winnipeg until his retirement in 2003. Dinny was always looking for new and exciting things to do. He joined Capital Lodge and became Master of the Lodge in 1983. He was also a member of the West Kildonan Legion for a number of years. Dinny loved Ukrainian culture, especially music and dance. They played an important part in his life and gave him much enjoyment. He was involved with many Ukrainian groups and organizations in the community, and gave his all whenever he was needed. The cottage was his place of relaxation. On summer weekends at the lake, he enjoyed a good game of golf during the day and spent evenings around the fire or on the cottage deck with friends. His exuberance, good humour and willingness to help at the drop of a hat rewarded him with many friends whom he cherished. Thank you to everyone who made the days during his long hospital stay much happier with good wishes, stories and music. Dinny was predeceased by his father Harry in 1979; and mother Thelma in 1996. Left to cherish his memory are his beautiful bride Sandra; sons, Christopher (Susan), Dennis (Ann); daughter Stacey; his brother Wayne; and many cousins, nephews and nieces. The joy of his life was his grandson Magnus. He had made many plans as a grandpa but will now be one of Magnus's guardian angels. Special thanks to his cousin Geri who was by his side day and night during his final days; to Ed, Victor and Jim who provided many rides to and from treatments, and to the Riverview nurses for their care and compassion for him and the family. Prayers will be held Thursday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m. and funeral service Friday, January 28 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary the Protectress, 820 Burrows Ave., with Rev. Fr. Dr. Buciora officiating. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers are Walter Dudych, Chris Garrick, Ed Proudlove, Ted Solodiuk, Bill Solomon and Ted Truszynski. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Good bye, I've got to go. There are things to do and people to see. Don't do anything I wouldn't do! To Sandra and your family: my thoughts are with you at this very sad time. I knew Dinny for many years - the years in west kildonan (Dave Hillis and me ) and of course worked with him. May your happy memories get you through the difficult days ahead. - Posted by: bernice smith (Co-Worker) on: Jan 27, 2005
