SALVATORE TROIA It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Salvatore Troia. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Seven Oaks General Hospital at the age of 98 years. Salvatore was predeceased by his wife Francesca Troia; his infant son Pino; his brothers and sisters, Antonino, Paulo, Francesco, Rosalia and Maria. He was born January 3, 1907 in Capaci, Palermo, Italy. He leaves to cherish his memory, son Franco Troia and wife Pina, grandchildren, Salvatore (Catherine), Franca (Cleto), Sarina (John), Vincenzo and Christopher (Gina); his daughter Francesca Zammito and husband Rosario, granddaughters, Giuseppina and Franca; daughter Serafina Carramusa and husband Pino; great-grandchildren, Michela, Marissa, Briana, Marina and Adam; He is survived by his brother Giusseppe Troia and wife Margherita; numerous nieces and nephews and their families in Canada, United States and Europe. Salvatore immigrated to Canada in 1953, joining his brother Paulo. He was a hard working man who devoted his whole life to providing for his family and children. He was a proud and generous man who told many captivating stories whenever we gathered around him. He took great joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and taught many of us how to play a good game of scupa . Nonno also enjoyed the outdoors, tending to his vegetable garden and taking his daily walk to our neighbourhood shopping centre where he often met up with friends. His memory will live in our hearts forever. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Parish, 510 River Ave. with Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment will follow at Assumption Mausoleum, 3990 Portage Ave. Pallbearers will be Salvatore Troia, Vincenzo Troia, Cleto Tedone, John Iliopoulos, Chris McDonald and Frank Troia. The family members would like to thank all those who gave their love and support and encouragement, often visiting him at his residence. We would especially like to convey our sincere gratitude to the thoughtful and supportive staff at St. Joseph's Residence for taking such good care of him. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to a charity of your choice. You were always there when we needed you, No task was ever too great or small, With a loving heart and willing hand, For us you did them all. We hold you close to our hearts, And there you will remain, To walk with us throughout our lives, Until we meet again. Thanks for the years you gave us, And for the times we shared, We only pray that when you left us, You knew how much we cared. I was a former worker at St. Joseph's last summer, where I did my 1st work practicum through Wpg Tech College. I remember Salvatore and would take the time to visit with him, even translating Italian to English sentences so I could communicate with him. He was very talkative, and seemed to enjoy my company, as I did his. On my last day, I "danced" with him in the dining hall during the birthday celebrations, and he shared his cake with me. I'm saddened to hear of his death. May God bless him and his family. - Posted by: Linda Sear (Acquaintance) on: Jan 28, 2005
