HELEN VIRGINIA SIMS (nee MURPHY) Peacefully on January 24, 2005 at the Grace General Hospital, Helen passed away at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her husband Harry; daughter Elaine; parents, William and Ellie; and siblings, Douglas, Ken, Bud, Harry, Elsie, and Mabel. Helen will be sadly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Reg and Jayne; grandchildren, Jeff (Jackie), Kym, Kelly, and Lyndsey; and great-grandson Keanen; and her brother George (Marge); and sisters, Marion and Alice; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was also Aunt or Nana to a wide reaching extended family. Her genuine interest and caring made everyone she met feel special and each will have their own memories to hold dear. Born on October 4, 1913, Helen grew up on the family farm near Grosse Isle, MB, and in 1939 she married Harry Sims of Stonewall. Through their travels and ventures during 39 years together, they forged many great friendships that she always cherished. Mom had several jobs during her life but the one she took most pride in was providing her family with a warm and loving home and unquestioning support for all our endeavours. For many years Helen was an active member of the WA, first at the St. James Anglican Church and later at the Parish Church of St. Luke, where she spent many enjoyable hours helping organize donations for the weekly Whale Sale. Until her eye sight failed the past couple of years she was always busy baking, sewing, gardening, walking, reading and playing scrabble. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at the Parish Church of St. Luke (Stradbrook and Nassau) on Friday, January 28 at 2:00 p.m. The family wishes to thank the staff of Oakview Place and Grace General Hospital Emergency for their excellent care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to CNIB or to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

  • So sorry to hear of her passing. She was a very gentle spirit and I learned a lot from her in my short time knowing her. She will be always remembered. - Posted by: Kim Melquist (Acquaintance) on: Feb 06, 2005
