ROSE MARIE BLACK Peacefully on January 24, 2005, Rose Marie Black passed away surrounded by love, at the Poseidon Care Centre at the age of 86 years. Marie was predeceased her husband James on February 26, 2000; also a daughter in infancy; sisters, Jay and Chris and her parents. Marie will be sadly missed and forever loved by her sons, Jimmie (Mary), Allen (Ellen), Harold (Helen) and Doug (Claire); grandchildren, Kirk, Cherie, Allen Jr., James, Colleen, Angie, Amber, Clayton, Charlene, Jessica, and Jenna; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Gabriel, Brianna and Koal; nieces and nephews; many friends and especially Bernice. Marie was born in Scotland and came to Canada at an early age. As a teenager she earned room and board as a live-in mother's helper while attending school. At the age of 21, Marie married James and began a 60 year journey together. They owned and operated many businesses such as the Royal Visit Confectionery on St. Mary's Road, Bear Lake Tourist Camp in the Whiteshell and Grays Tourist Camp on Lake of the Woods. They returned to Winnipeg in the late 1950s and Marie was a stay-at-home mom but worked part-time at Eaton's and cleaning houses. Eventually she ran the cafeteria at Winnipeg Transit, 10 Fort, preparing delicious home cooked meals. Marie and James provided a good home life and were always there for the children. The family enjoyed trips to British Columbia, a cottage at Lester Beach, camping in the Whiteshell and finally a cottage at Nutimik Lake in the Whiteshell. Marie and James retired in 1977 and spent most of their time at Nutimik, where they enjoyed blueberry picking, walking and playing cards with their friends. Marie was an excellent cook and was always preparing many great meals and baking, including lots of treats for everyone. She also enjoyed knitting toques, scarves and mitts for her family and also for the underprivileged children. Marie was famous for her knitted Christmas stockings for family and friends. Not only did Marie have a great sense of humour, she was very intelligent, always impressed us with how well she did watching Jeopardy and solving difficult crossword puzzles. We would like to thank all of the special angels at Poseidon who took great care of our mom and especially those on the 5th floor, you were all so loving, thoughtful, caring and made our mom and us feel at home at all times. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. We will never forget you Mom and Dad, love always your family. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
