MARY PUNGENTE (nee Wikien), passed away quietly on Sunday, January 23, 2005 in her 95th year in Brandon. She was the last member of her family of three sisters and a brother. Mary was a Life Member of the Catholic Women's League with whom she served as parish and provincial presidents. She attended some 30 national CWL conventions and had a great love of travel. Her service to the church included serving as Lector and extra-ordinary minister for St. Augustine's. She helped out at the Children's Aid and visited the sick at the hospital. For 12 years, Mary worked as a nurse in the old Assiniboine Hospital. She was deservedly proud of her needlepoint and crewel work. Predeceased in 2001 by her husband, John, she is survived by son, Fr. John Pungente, SJ of Toronto; daughter, Jo-Ann and son-in-law, Woodrow White of Seattle, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be fondly remembered also by three grandsons, Tony, Keith and Kevin White and four great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Chase, Garrett and Cora White. Thank you to all our friends for their prayers and comfort. Prayers will be said at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th St., on Friday, January 28 at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, 327-4th St., on Saturday, January 29 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. John Pungente SJ and Fr. Leo Fernandes as Celebrants. Cremation to follow, with interment to take place at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations, in honour of Mary, may be made to a charity of choice. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com
