WILLIAM (BILL) JARDINE WOODROW With his family at his side Bill died peacefully at the Grace Hospital on Wednesday, January 26, 2005. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty years, Carolyn; daughter Jane Gateson (Roger); son Robert (Barb); and grandchildren, Ian and Andrew Gateson and Stephen and Lindsey Woodrow. Born of Scottish parents in 1910, Bill grew up in a farming community near Virden, MB. He became a teacher and taught in several rural schools in Manitoba. During the Second World War he served as a navigator in the R.C.A.F. In 1944 he married Carolyn Robertson. After the war, he was employed by the Winnipeg School Division serving as a teacher and later as an administrator. Upon retirement he found great satisfaction renovating their much loved cottage at Victoria Beach where he and Carolyn spent many happy summers. They loved to travel and had winter holidays in Florida. Bill enjoyed involvement with the St. James Library Board, and the committee which built and operated Grant's Old Mill. He took an active role in the life and work of Deer Lodge United Church for over 50 years. He was a loving husband, a very proud father and grandfather and loyal friend to many. For his family and all who knew him Bill set an example as a man of integrity, and one who was nurturing, helpful, and kind. His wit and wisdom enriched our lives. The family would like to thank the staff of the Grace Hospital 3 south for their compassionate care. A memorial service will be held at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson St. on Tuesday, February 1 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Jim Hatherley and Rev. Bill Corkum officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winnipeg School Division Children's Heritage Fund c/o R. B. Russell Vocational School. Indicate funds are for the R.B. Russell Downtown Y Program.
