QUON HEN (HENRY) WONG July 29, 1934 - January 28, 2005 Peacefully and surrounded by love, Quon Hen (Henry) Wong passed away in the early hours of Friday, January 28, 2005. He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Shui Hing (Jenny) Wong; son Roy Wong and wife Velda (grandchildren, Christopher, Janine and Jelena); daughter Joyce Wong and husband Gary Sova (grandchildren Raquel and Riley); daughter Joan Harder (nee Wong) and husband Fred (grandchildren Jessica and Christina); daughter Janet Wong and husband Alan Habbick (grandchild Jordan); son Rob Wong and fiancee Trista Shust; as well as his sisters, Dolly and Julie and numerous relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Charlie and Lie Fong Wong and his sister Winnie. Henry was born in Guangdong, China in 1934. He immigrated to Canada in 1950 and married Shui Hing Yuen in Winnipeg on May 7, 1957. When he first came to Canada, Henry worked as a chef at Shanghai Restaurant for several years. In 1972, Henry and wife Jenny opened Wong's Restaurant in the heart of Winnipeg's Chinatown. He and his wife operated the business for 11 years. After a brief retirement, they operated a frozen dim sum outlet for six years. Henry loved to spend time with family and friends and played a mean game of mah jong. He enjoyed picking up knick knack and often came home with bags of goodies for his children and grandchildren. He was an avid lover of Chinese opera and was a long-standing member of the Chinese Dramatic Society. A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, February 1 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be held Wednesday, February 2, at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway.
