NORMA VIVIAN SCARTH Peacefully, at aged 76, Norma Vivian Scarth (nee Legge) of Winnipeg, MB passed away on January 28, 2005 at Concordia Place Nursing Home. Norma will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband Edward (Ted) Scarth; daughter Barbara Sanipelli and husband Giuliano and their children, Fiona and Graham; son Douglas Scarth and his wife Betty and their daughter Megan; daughter Gwen Wischnewski and husband Bruno and their daughters, Laura and Angela; son Gordon Scarth and his wife Susan; sister Pat Zolf of Toronto and her children, David and Rachel and their partners, Laura and Lisa; sisters-in-law, Bea Parkin and her husband Reg, Dot Nielsen and her husband Erik, Mary Scarth, Elsie Scarth, Kay Scarth, Rose Scarth and Violet Glendinning; as well as by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Vera Vivian (Horne) and Cyril Legge. Norma was born in Winnipeg on October 27, 1928. She worked as a secretary for James Richardson and Sons Ltd. and then for Dominion Bridge Co. where she met her husband, Ted Scarth, whom she married in 1955. A loving wife and mother and a homemaker for many years, Norma nurtured her four children, passing on her excellent skills of sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking and cooking. Over the years Norma had knit many sweaters for everyone in the family. She passed on these and many other skills to other people besides her family through Girl Guides. Norma was a dedicated adult member of the Girl Guides of Canada for 59 years. Her positions throughout the years included Guide Captain, District Secretary, District Commissioner, Provincial Trainer and Provincial Program Commissioner, but she was perhaps best known for her work in founding and organizing the provincial Girl Guide Archives. It was through this work that she became certified with the Association of Manitoba Archivists. She received an Honorary Life Membership from Girl Guides in 1988. Norma taught Sunday School at St. Lukes Church and was a member of the Anglican Young People's Association. She later became a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church and their Ladies' Auxillary. Norma turned 65 in October 1993 and suffered a stroke in November 1993. She moved to Concordia Place Nursing Home five years ago where her husband Ted spent many hours every day with her. She was also visited by her children, grandchildren, sister, family and friends. A special thanks to the caring staff at Concordia Hospital and Concordia Place. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 2 at St. Stephen's Anglican Church at 220 Helmsdale Ave. in East Kildonan, followed by a reception and then interment at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
