ANDREW MICHNIUK Peacefully in the early hours of Friday, January 28, 2005 Andrew Michniuk passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 95. Andrew is survived by his beloved family, son Tom (Gloria); daughters, Genivieve (Don) Ochocki and Audrey (Jan) Jongstra; four grandchildren, Lorie, Derrick, Russell and Robin; and one great-granddaughter Amber. He also leaves his brothers-in-law, Walter and Russell Galagan; his sisters-in-law, Emily Pensak and Rusty Galagan and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary Galagan in 1977 and his brother John in 1983. He will be missed by all. Andrew came to Canada in 1929 from a village in White Russia leaving behind his mother and siblings. Andrew married Mary in 1939. They spent most of their life in the North End of the city raising a family. He worked 46 years in the garment industry, first working at Sterling Cloak and then at United Garments. He enjoyed his back yard garden, growing tomatoes and cucumbers. Of course his vegetables were always the biggest and the best tasting. He was a good cook especially his Dukhobor soup. He loved getting up early Sunday mornings and driving out to the country to pick mushrooms, especially piedpanky. The family would like to thank the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge for their care and compassion during Andrew's stay with them. Many thanks to the staff of the third and fourth floors of Seven Oaks Hospital. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Andrew's life will be held on Wednesday, February 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Fred Douglas Lodge, 1275 Burrows Ave. Rev. John Lenshyn will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. Keep picking those mushrooms, Dad.
