THOMAS DAVID WHEWAY It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas (Tom) Wheway after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Jeanette; his second wife Dorothy; grandchildren, Alan and Hebert. He is survived by his brothers, John (Marie) and Norman; sister Betty; brothers, Ray (Verna), George, Billy (Sandy); the apple of his eye daughter Karmen Kwiecien and husband Doug; grandsons, Adam and Matt; and always special friend Pat. He also leaves to mourn stepson Allan; grandchildren, Kellen, Cody and Devyn; stepson Herb; granddaughter Debbie (Blair); great-grandchildren, Nicole, Carson and Brock; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was born July 26, 1936 in Winnipeg. He joined the navy in 1953 and upon his return to Winnipeg he worked in the hospitality industry until his retirement. He was employed at the Ellice Inn, Elk's Club, Paddock, Ramada Inn and the Granite Curling Club. This led to many friendships that carried on throughout his life. When his pursuits in darts and golf were curtailed by his health he continued a special bond with his friends at the Cambridge Hotel. The family extends its sincerest gratitude to the special attention provided at CancerCare Manitoba, Homecare providers, and medical staff at the Victoria General Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 2, at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba would be appreciated.
