JAMES DYCK Dad was born on December 3, 1925 first born to Jacob and Margaret Dyck at Lowe Farm, MB. He was raised on farms near Lowe Farm, Fortier and Homewood. In 1943 when Jim was 17 his dad passed away. Being the oldest child, Jim took over the farm with the help of his mom and brothers Ben and Ervin. On November 2, 1947 he married Marie Klassen and they lived and farmed at Homewood. Together they had four children, Lillian (Ron) Hiebert of Sperling (Curtis, Tanya, and Scott), Terry (Betty) of Carman (Kelly and Andrea), Glen (Terri-Lynn) of Homewood (Britni, Stephanie and Taylor), and Marilyn (Guido) Faralli of Morden (Daniela deceased, Benita and Carmen). Dad is survived by brothers, Ben (Margaret) and Ervin; and sister Ina (Walter) Friesen. Dad became a Christian at the age of 13 at Canadian Sunday School Mission Camp and was baptized at the age of 18 in the Homewood Mennonite Church. He attended Bible school for two years in Winkler and two years in Winnipeg. Dad's love was farming and he grew a wide variety of crops which included Sugar Beets. He sold General Motors vehicles at Carman Motor Products from 1967, until he sold the dealership in 1972. During that time he also farmed with his good friend Ken August. He had a water hauling business and sold hopper grain bins for Meridian Industries and Lode-King. In 1980 he quit farming and kept busy helping the boys farm and also by selling bins, furniture and in his later years Real Estate with his son Terry. Dad was always interested in new technology. He was one of the first to have a TV in the 50's, he embraced the computer age, and was excited about GPS when he drove tractor for his son-in-law Ron and didn't have to steer it. He thought it would have been great for planting Sugar Beets. Dad loved flying his Cessna 172 plane and enjoyed his trips. Dad quit flying in 1987 when Mom had had enough and thought it was too dangerous. Dad and Mom did volunteer work together for Mennonite Disaster Service, he also enjoyed discussions and seminars on Prophecy and also Promise Keepers. He enjoyed driving tractor until last year. In his later years his love turned to his grandchildren. In April 2004, Jim got sick with the Chicken Pox and then had a stroke and heart attack and never fully recovered. This last year has been tough on dad and mom but it gave us all time to say good bye and let dad go. On Friday, January 28, 2005 at 7:05 p.m., with his loving wife of 57 years by his side, he went to be with his Lord and Saviour. Dad was predeceased by his dad in 1942, his mom in 1993, sister Delma in 1994, sisters-in- law, Anna and Rose; brothers-in-law, Martin and Jake. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. at the Bethel Mennonite Church, Stafford Street, Winnipeg with Pastors Rudy Baergen and David Cornish officiating. Viewing on Tuesday 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Doyle's Funeral Chapel in Carman. Interment on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery at Carman. Also a special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at the Victoria and Carman Hospitals who looked after Dad in a loving way. Thanks to Pastors David Cornish and Rudy Baergen.
