Herbie was predeceased by his parents, August and Emma (nee Pokrant); brother Raymond; nephews, Ronnie and Robert; and niece Carol. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 2 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Knysh Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bill Lehman officiating. Interment will take place in the Beausejour Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Horban and John Tomanek. Active pallbearers will be Greg Zielke, Len Yablonski, Ernie Buck, Dave Carey, Leo Kozak and Bobby Poushyk. Herbie was born on June 15, 1936 in Cloverleaf, MB. He was a hardworking man who started his career humbly at Pitch's Grocery in Beausejour. After moving between Atikokan and Marathon, ON to work at Shop Easy he settled in Winnipeg where he began working for Canada Dry. In the fall of 1962 he met the love of his life, Bernice. They married in May 1963 and moved briefly to Thompson where Herbie worked at Inco. In 1967 they returned to Winnipeg and Herbie returned to Canada Dry beginning what would become an extremely successful 30 year career. Although the company changed names and owners many times, Herbie remained a loyal employee to the company and the products. Herbie won numerous honours and awards including Merchandiser of the Year in 1972 when he was rewarded with a trip to Calgary for the whole family. A trip to Las Vegas for himself and his drivers was another example of his extraordinary success as a salesman. Herbie was always extremely dedicated to family. In their early years of marriage weekends were alternated between mothers, one weekend in Beausejour, one in Melob. His family always remained important to him later in life but Herbie's cats held an extremely special place in his life and in his heart. Herbie's kind and gentle manner and ability to make people laugh will leave a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Flowers gratefully declined. Should friends so desire memorial contributions in Herbie's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. KNYSH FUNERAL CHAPEL 582-0973
