ETHEL (GRACE) HUNTER

ETHEL (GRACE) HUNTER passed away peacefully at Oakview Place Personal Care Home on January 28, 2005, with family at her side. Grace was a long time resident of 231 Moorgate St. where she could be seen daily walking her dogs. Grace was born at Woodlands, MB, on August 8, 1910. She received her schooling there, beginning in a one room school. After graduation she enrolled in the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing from 1930 - 1933, following which she accepted a position at Winnipeg General Hospital where she nursed until 1950. In 1951 she moved to Deer Lodge Veterans Hospital where she progressed up the ranks to become head nurse then Supervisor of the Surgical Ward, retiring in 1975. She was predeceased by her parents, Nate and Ethel Hunter; three brothers, Roy, Harvey, and Alvin; one brother-in-law Ron Baldwin; one sister-in-law Martha and a niece Faye Upton. She is survived by her sister Marian Baldwin; sister-in-law Susie Hunter; and several nieces and nephews and their families. Grace was a very kind and generous person who gave her support to many causes. She never missed acknowledging the birthdays and anniversaries of her family and friends. The family wishes to extend our thanks and appreciation for the acts of kindness shown to Grace by the Oakview Staff. A memorial service will be held at Warren United Church on Friday, February 4 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3.
