Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVELMA GUTKNECHT (nee BEAUDRY) July 6, 1934 - January 30, 2005 Showing great strength and courage, with family at her side, Mom ended her battle with cancer. Mom is survived by her children, Terry (Susan), Lloyd (Margaret), Gail (Doug), Rose (Bob), Kevin (Marlyn); grandchildren, Natasha, Charles (Robyn), Melissa, Joanne, Trent, Krystal, Brandy, Dylan, Tyler; and one precious great-grandson Silas; sisters, Margaret and Aleida (John); brother Bill (Eileen); sisters-in-law, Alma, Mary (Phil), Irene and Eileen; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. Mom was born July 6, 1934, in Ashern to Annie and William Beaudry, completing a family of ten. Mom was a fun loving person who enjoyed sneaking into town on Saturday nights with future sisters-in-law, Alma and Mary. On June 20, 1953, she married August. They settled in a tiny trailer Dad built himself. Later they moved to a house on the outskirts of Ashern. Together they raised five children. Their house was full of music, laughter, good friends and many a lively card game. Mom had numerous jobs in the community until her health forced her to retire from Lakeshore Hospital. Mom enjoyed regular bingo games, cards, colourful jokes and her visits and lunches with friends at the Ashern Support Centre. Mom was predeceased by her husband August; her parents; her mother and father-in-law; along with numerous brothers and sisters; and infant grandson Steven. Viewing will be held between 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2 at Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 3 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Ashern with Pastor Nancy Walker officiating. Viewing will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment to follow at Marne (Ashern Gospel Chapel) Cemetery beside her husband August. Lunch to follow at the Ashern Legion Hall. We would like to thank Aunties Alma and Margaret for keeping Mom going; for the outings, the card games, the visits and the laughter. You meant the world to her. Thank you to the homecare staff and to the doctors and all departments of the Lakeshore Health Centre for the care and support shown to Mom and our family. Thank you to everyone for the cards, visits and food. To Aunties Aleida, Alma and Margaret, thank you for your support, on behalf of the family. Thank you to Pastor Nancy for the visits and to Arnason's Funeral Home. Donations may be made in Mom's memory to Lakeshore Hospital Guild, in care of Julie Bergner, Box 721, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0, for use in the Palliative Care Unit.
