STANISLAW (STANLEY) MAKSYM Peacefully in his sleep, on Saturday, January 29, 2005 our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 53 years, Mary (Maria); his daughter Helena, her husband Roger, their children, Deondra and Tanner; son-in-law Dennis, his children, Jennifer, Matthew and Alanna; his sisters, Joanna and Waleria as well as numerous family members in Detroit and Poland. He was predeceased by his daughter Christine; mother Maria and father Peter. Stanley was born in Wolka Sokolowska, Rzeszow, Poland on August 24, 1922. After the second World War, he immigrated to Canada from Germany where he joined his father in Winnipeg. Soon after he met Maria; they married in 1951 and began to raise their family. They moved to River Heights in 1968, where their home has always been the heart of the family. Quiet by nature, Dad was always ready to listen and give advice and support to his children and grandchildren. He was a hardworking, skilled auto mechanic for over 40 years. Generous with his time and talents, he always helped family and friends fix whatever needed to be fixed. Mom and Dad's garden and apple trees flourished under his careful attention; he was an avid gardener and especially loved to grow tomatoes. Dad had a talent for making wine; we'll always remember how much he enjoyed sharing it at family gatherings. He was a proud member of the Polish Gymnastics Association Sokol Winnipeg for over 40 years, faithfully attending monthly meetings until his health prevented him from participating. According to his wishes, Stanley has been cremated. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Feburary 3 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Brebeuf Church, 1707 Brebeuf Place, with Fr. Michael Koryluk officiating. Private interment will follow after Mass. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all the doctors who cared for Dad over the years and enabled him to enjoy his life. A special thank you to the Palliative care nurses who visited him at home and the staff on the Palliative Care ward at St. Boniface Hospital for their kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stanley's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Suite 200, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or CancerCare Manitoba, 109 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Rest in Peace Dad; we love you and will always miss you. THOMSON IN THE PARK FUNERAL HOME AND CEMETERY 1291 McGillivray Blvd - 925-1120
