ALLAN DAVID LANGLOIS On Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Winnipeg, Allan David Langlois, shown above celebrating his 85th birthday, passed away at the Victoria Hospital in his 90th year with his niece Sharron and her husband Jim at his side. Allan was born in Fort Rouge, Winnipeg, on August 4, 1915, one of eight children. He was predeceased by four brothers, Clem, Bill, Jack and Lorne and two sisters, Marg Bere (Les) and Evelyn Gibson (Art). Surviving his passing are his wife Winnifred and step-daughter Carol Marcelle of Chatham, ON; and his brother George, wife Julie, and their son David (Neri) of Toronto. His sister-in-law Mona, Bill's widow, also survives. There are numerous nieces and nephews left to mourn, including Sharron Ballendine (Jim) and their daughters, Melinda (Chris) and Joanna, and Carol Reznik (George) and their son George (Auriana). Allan attended Lord Roberts School and Kelvin High School. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1940 and served until 1946. He served overseas from August 1942 until June 1945 and retired in 1946 with the rank of Captain. From 1946 to 1955, he was employed with the Department of Veterans Affairs and subsequently with the Department of National Defence until his retirement in 1971. Allan was a two-time Canadian Curling Champion having played third with the late Billy Walsh of the Fort Rouge Curling Club when their team won the MacDonald Brier Tankard in 1952 and 1956. He was a past president and honourary life member of Fort Rouge and honourary life member of the Past Presidents Association of Manitoba Curling Clubs. He was subsequently appointed to the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in 1975 and the Manitoba Curling Club Hall of Fame in 1991. Allan began curling at the age of 12 at Fort Rouge and won many Junior curling honours. He was president of the Fort Rouge Juniors in 1932, and in 1933 he was elected President of the Manitoba Junior Curling Association. He was a member of the Fort Rouge and Granite Curling Clubs as well as the Sportsman's Curling Club and was past president of the Granite Senators Curling Club. In addition to his love of curling, Allan loved to golf. He was a member of Pine Ridge from 1946 to 1955, then in 1961 he joined the Elmhurst Golf and Country Club and was a member until he died, leaving behind many, many friends and great memories. Cremation has already taken place. At Allan's request, no funeral service will be held. His wish was that all his acquaintances just enjoy their curling and golf as much as he did.
