BETTY IRENE (SHEPHERD) PERROW was born December 24, 1930 in Winnipeg, MB to John Bassett Shepherd and Roberta Baird Boyd. In 1948 she began studies at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg on an Isbister Undergraduate Scholarship, followed in 1952 by a French Government Bursary to study at the Sorbonne. In 1953 she received a Canadian Federation of University Women Professional Award to study at Oxford. Returning to Canada in 1954, she taught in high schools in Winnipeg, Quebec City and Montreal. Married in 1961, she moved to Connecticut with her beloved husband William Henry Vivian Perrow, and raised a family. After her husband's death in 1982, she earned a master's degree in education from Harvard University, where she also studied Chinese. She then taught English for a year in Xian, China. In 1988 she moved to Toronto, where she taught French for the North York Board, retiring in 1996 and moving to Quebec. On January 19, 2005, she died peacefully at her home in Mont-Tremblant. She is survived by her three children, Margaret, Roberta and Jonathan; and by her grandson William.
