ERNEST OAKLEY On Saturday morning January 29, 2005, Ernie Oakley of Tache Nursing Home passed away. He had been a resident of the home for the past five years. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife, Pam; his two sons, Roy and Bill, their wives Ginger and Linda; grandchildren Amanda, Matthew and Deborah; his dear sister Pat and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father, his brother Bill and sister Bess. Ernie was born in Kinborn Ontario but lived all of his life in St. Boniface. As a young man he began working at the Union Stockyards. During the war he served with the Royal Canadian Artillery. While in England he met Pam (WAAF) and in 1945 they were married. After the war Pam joined Ernie in Canada. Ernie continued to work in the Stockyards and ended his career as manager of Manitoba Pool Livestock. He enjoyed his work and his coworkers. Ernie and Pam built their own house and raised their two sons on St. Catherine's Street. They lived there till Ernie developed Alzheimer's and had to move to Tache Nursing Home. Ernie faced his illness with bravery and Pam lovingly cared for him till the day he died. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to 4DE and 5C at Tache Centre for all the loving care, compassion and kindness towards Ernie and his family. Special thanks to Resia Alderman for all her care and to the Group for their kind support to Pam. In compliance with Ernie's wishes no funeral service will be held.
