Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEON LAWRENCE MIKOLASH November 15, 1922 to February 3, 2005 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather at the Selkirk and District General Hospital at the age of 82 years. Leo is survived by his loving wife Kay of 54 years; and eight children, Doug (Pat), Jim, Leonard (Valda), Jane Verin (Gary), Cindy Larkins (Ray), Kathy Moseley (Gary), Tim (Jacqueline) and Kim Goodbrandson (Dean). He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Lisa, Robert, Lindsay, David, Robin, Jordan, Riley and Annika; his stepchildren, Nicole, Carmen, Heather, Jamie and two step great-grandchildren, Bella and Emily. He is also survived by his sister Elsie Nova; brother Ray Mikolash and sister-in-law Mary Milton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and family members. Leo was predeceased by his parents, Theopile and Mary; brothers, Al, Tom, Jack and sister Annie and his wife's parents, John and Ann Kutchera. Leo was born and raised in Ladywood, MB, on the family farm. As a young boy, they moved to East Selkirk, MB. Leo served his country in the Second World War overseas - as an ambulance driver. Upon returning from the war, he met the love of his life - Kay at a dance. Their life's journey began, marrying in 1950 during the Flood of the Century. Leo was an extremely hard working man - who was employed with Brown's Bread, McGavin's Bread and City Bread as a self-employed salesman retiring at the age of 56 years. He was a man who enjoyed sharing his life stories with any and all he met. He was one of those guys who just loves to talk to you over a good cup of coffee in the local malls, and solve all the world's problems in bending your ear. In his later years he enjoyed the simple things like going for a drive with Mom to enjoy looking at the deer in Bird's Hill Park or the birds at Oak Hammock Marsh. Dad looked forward to every family celebration where good food and love were shared. His greatest pride throughout his life was his family. Nothing meant more to him than his wife, children and especially his grandchildren. Dad was a founding member of the East Selkirk Volunteer Fire Department, serving for 17 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Selkirk Branch No. 42, an active member in his church, and served two terms as a school trustee. The family members wish to thank the staff of the Medical Unit of the Selkirk and District General Hospital and Dr. Ryckman for caring for our dear Dad these past few months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Leo's memory to The Poppy Fund at the Royal Canadian Legion No. 42 Selkirk Branch, in care of 403 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB R1A 1N8. Come follow Me.....and I will give you rest. Prayers will be said on Monday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbard Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, East Selkirk, MB with Father Jerry Talarski officiating. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, MB in care of arrangements.
