On Wednesday, February 2, 2005, Gilles passed away peacefully at the DeSalaberry and District Health Centre in St. Pierre-Jolys, MB at the age of 62. Gilles will be fondly remembered by his beloved wife of 39 years, Hilda (nee Connelly) and their three children, Charles (Debi), Renee and Roger and grandchildren, Ashley, Andre, Avery and Austin, who held a special place in his heart. Gilles will also be remembered by his two sisters, Gisele Marion (Poke Prins) of Lac du Bonnet, MB, Monique Robert of Burnaby, BC and brother Bernard Robert of Keswick, ON; as well as many relatives and friends. Gilles was predeceased by his parents, Albini and Clarinda Robert. Next to family, farming was Dad's life and passion. Prior to meeting Mom, he farmed alongside his parents in Aubigny, MB. In 1969, Dad and Mom made St. Malo their home where they first ran a dairy operation, and then switched to a grain and oilseed operation. For several years, Dad also ran Robert's A.I. Service serving local dairy and beef producers. Dad had a deep respect for the animals he cared for and for the land he cultivated every year. At spring seeding, he was eager to get onto the land, and remained eternally optimistic for a successful harvest. In his retirement years, he was in his glory driving the combine helping his son during harvest. Family was a priority for Dad. Moments surrounded by family, friends and good food were reflected in his smile and laughter. He valued family gatherings and Sunday night dinners surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He delighted in hearing stories of his grandchildren and their mischievous antics. He enjoyed a good game of crib and had a standing appointment at the card table at the Chalet Malouin. The family would like to thank Dr. R. Strank, the medical staff, home care services of the DeSalaberry Health Centre and Chalet Malouin for their many years of care. In accordance with his wishes, Gilles has been cremated. Funeral mass will be celebrated at the St. Malo Roman Catholic Church in St. Malo, MB on Monday, February 7 at 11:00 a.m. Prayer service will begin at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gilles' memory to a charity of one's choice. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • My sympathies to all of you. Your father was one of my favorite cousins. We grew together and had many good times in Aubigny when we went there for the summer. We certainly got into mischief together. We both loved the animals and the farm. I am sadden at his departure. I did not know that he had passed on or we would have been at the funeral. Thoughts and prayers are with all of you. - Posted by: Claudette Smith (Family) on: Feb 09, 2005
