Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRODERICK (ROY) JAMES MACDONALD 1921 - 2005 Passed peacefully away at the Lions Manor Personal Care Centre in Winnipeg, MB, on January 30, 2005, in his 84th year. Predeceased by his father Roderick Allan and his mother Anna. Roy will be deeply missed by his loving wife Margaret; and by his children, Marilyn Macdonald (Stephen Jones), Murray Macdonald (Lisa Thomassen), Neil Macdonald (Sarah-Lynn Klassen); his grandchildren, Rhiannon, Ryan, Gwen and Sean; and his nephew Martin (Colleen) Williams, nieces, Nancy Primmer, Brenda (Chris) Cleverley and all their children. Roy lived in Winnipeg all his life. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba in 1943, serving as Senior Stick of Arts in his final year. After graduation, he joined the Army and became a Sergeant specializing in the field of radar until his discharge in 1946. Roy held the position of Secretary-Treasurer of Great-West Metal Products Ltd., a Winnipeg-based sheet metal manufacturing company, from 1948 to 1978. He joined the Rotary Club of Winnipeg in 1972 and was a very active member. He particularly enjoyed his service at the Welcome table prior to meetings. He was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship in September 1985, one of Rotary's highest honours. Roy was also an active member of Fort Garry United Church. Roy's lifelong passion was golf. He was a founding member of the Southwood Golf and Country Club in Fort Garry, an excellent golfer, and he served on the Board as President in the early 1950s and as Club Captain from 1968 to 1983. In 1974 he was awarded an Honorary Life Membership for his past service. He and Margaret made many lifelong friendships during their golfing holidays in Florida and Arizona. Roy also enjoyed curling at the Wildewood Club and the Winter Club, bridge, cribbage, music of all types and, especially, time spent at the family cottage at Falcon Lake. He was particularly proud of his Scottish heritage. Roy was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he will live on in the memory of those he leaves behind. He was a great friend to many and would go out of his way to help others. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Khan and the caring and compassionate staff on the 3rd floor of the Lions Manor Personal Care Centre for looking after him so well over the last few years and for keeping him comfortable in his final days. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Thomson In The Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., on Thursday, February 10 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A celebration of Roy's life will take place at Thomson In The Park on Friday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Gordon Taylor officiating. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roy's memory to the Canadian Mental Health Association or a charity of one's choice. it was with great sadness to me when i saw that roy had passed away while we are vacationing in texas. i played many games of golf over the years with roy and the ff group at southwood. roy was a great person and quite a few stories were told in the nineteenth hole and lots of great memories. rest well my friend. craig and gail wood - Posted by: craig wood (Friend) on: Feb 08, 2005
