He will be sadly missed by his children, Donald (Julie), Ron (Kitty), Audrey, Gerry (Carol) and Barry; by his grandchildren, Gordon (Paula), Cheryl (Weldon), Beth, April, Fiona, Chelsea, Rhett and Peyton; and by his great-grandchildren, Arielle, Jordon and Freddy. He is survived by his sisters, Florence, Norma and Beatrice; by his brother Floyd (Margaret); and by his sister-in-law Phyllis. Orville was predeceased by his wife Betty, in 2002, and by one brother Eddie. Orville was born in North Dakota, and as a young child he immigrated with his parents, Lewis and Elmira to western Manitoba where the family set up farming. In 1939, he married his beloved Betty, who had moved to the area as the local school teacher. In 1949, they moved to Winnipeg, where Orville gained employment with the Brewery at Redwood and Main through its several name changes until his retirement in 1987. Orville was a very active man who enjoyed his long retirement gardening, travelling, playing cribbage, attending Friday meetings with his fellow retirees, and ushering at St. Alphonsus Church. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and Legion No. 9. He was very proud of his family and loved being a grandfather and great-grandfather. Orville resided at the Kildonan Personal Care Centre since 1999. He continued to be active there until very recently as a member of the Resident Council, by playing bingo and taking part in the woodworking club. The family would like to express thanks to the 3rd Floor staff of the Centre for their care and support. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Munroe Avenue and Brazier Street, at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8. Interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Orville's memory to the Parkinson's Society. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
