PETER MEDWID Peacefully, with loved ones at his side, Peter lost his battle with Mesothelioma on Friday, February 4, 2005 at the Health Sciences Centre. Peter was born in Teulon, MB on March 23, 1940 and attended school, married and raised his family in the Balmoral, Stonewall area. He was a country boy at heart - and in life - living his life behind the wheel of a tractor, or his Mack hauling gravel. He was happiest when driving the backroads, either hauling gravel or doing crop surveys - and continued to do just that until his health would no longer allow it. Friends were of utmost importance to Peter, and he cherished each and everyone. Peter loved his family dearly, but his four year old grandson Nathan (Big Guy) was his best friend. Nathan often rode with Poppa in his Mack, and Poppa was so proud that Nathan loved to listen to his Ukrainian music. Peter also loved his other grandson Dillon but unfortunately couldn't spend as much time with him as he would have liked. Peter is survived by Jean, his loving wife of 39 years; his loving daughter Kimberley (Daniel) Benevides (grandsons, Big Guy and Dillon); precious son Glen (Adrianne); brothers, Steve (Lorraine), Willie (Ida), Jim (Margaret); sisters, Jean (Ed) Sawatzky, Margaret (Russel) Beirnes, as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart. Also surviving are Jean's family, sisters, Marion Tymchuk, Joyce (Joe) Kruk, Helen (Richard) Yakobina; brothers, Dave (Doris) Oneschuk, Edward (Jeannette), Raymond Oneschuk and Bill Oneschuk and numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents, John (1987) and Helen (1985); sisters, Marian Makowski (1989) and sister Lucy Cartwright (2001). Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Bailer, Dan Benevides, Russel Beirnes, Dick Deprez, Dennis Dudych, Manuel Estevez, Alex Fotty, Jack Hendry, Dave Kernot, Jack Kernot, Marinko Kopilas, Jim Minaker, George Pashnyk, Dave Oneschuk. Active pallbearers will be Lance Beirnes, Tyler Beirnes, Brad Carby, Ken Makowski, Bob Makowski, Kristopher Medwid, John Medwid, Dave Peleshaty. Prayer service will be held on Monday, February 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. Funeral service will be held at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall on Tuesday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Peter's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Tally Ho Peter MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
