Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS LIONEL MORTON Lionel Morton died in Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, on February 6, 2005. He had suffered from AIDS for some time. Born in Winnipeg on November 9, 1946, he was the younger son of William Lewis (Bill) Morton and Margaret (Peggy) Orde Morton. Lionel studied at the University of Manitoba and at the University of Pittsburgh, on a Woodrow Wilson scholarship, and took a doctorate cum laude in English literature at the University of Toronto in 1975. After teaching at the universities of Trent, Victoria and Alberta, he returned to Toronto where he worked as a computer programmer and a writer, and was active in many causes in the gay community. He is survived by his sister Anne Morton in Winnipeg; his brother Orde in Toronto; his aunts, Betty Morton and Nora Phillips; and his uncles, Harry Morton and Bud Phillips; and many cousins in Western Canada, Ontario, New Zealand, Australia and Germany. Lionel was a wonderful brother, funny and sweet natured, an engaging mixture of diffidence and self-assurance. The family wants to thank Dr. Jeff Powis, Bob Burgoyne and the health care teams at Toronto General, Mount Sinai and Princess Margaret Hospitals. A memorial service will be held in St. Thomas's Anglican Church, Huron Street, Toronto, with interment of ashes in St. John's Cathedral Cemetery in the spring. Donations may be made in Lionel's memory to Nine Circles Community Health Centre, 705 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3G 0X2, 940-6000, or to the charity of your choice.
