HUGO DELFING November 6, 1932 - February 5, 2005 With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Hugo. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 49 years, Vera; his daughters, Ursula, Ingrid, Benita; sons-in-law, Terry Desmond and Bohdan Matwijiw; as well as grandchildren, Kyle, Marissa, Tamara, Kellen and Garrett. He will also be missed by his brother Guenter (Uschi); sisters, Anita (Gerd) of British Columbia, Helga (Soren) of Denmark; sister-in-law Gisela; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother Egon; sister-in-law Nellie; and his parents-in-law. Hugo was born in Mayen, Germany, and came to Canada in February 1952. He loved his adopted homeland. He worked at Comstock International for 20 years, starting as an apprentice steamfitter and worked his way up to management. He was well known in the mechanical trades. In 1978 he purchased Central Plumbing Heating, which he continued at until failing health forced him into early retirement in 1990. As a young man his passion was playing soccer and was very involved with F.C. Germania. He was a member of the Canadian German Society as well as the German Canadian Society, where he was a member of the Executive for many years. He was the vice-president of the Treue Husar until his passing. Hugo loved to party, enjoyed his tropical vacations, music, and working outdoors. He always had a soft spot in his heart for animals. He was an extremely hard-working man and will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his sense of humour and his enjoyment of a good argument. He lived his life to the fullest. He was very proud of his daughters and grandchildren and loved when they all came to visit, especially in the summer time, enjoying long, hot days around the pool. Some of his greatest enjoyments came from spending time with family and friends at the home he built on Balgona Road, where he lived for over 30 years. It was his oasis in the world. A celebration of Hugo's life will be held on Wednesday, February 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the German Society (upper hall) on Charles and Flora. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses at Health Sciences Centre for the wonderful care they gave Hugo. In lieu of flowers, donations in Hugo's memory may be made to the Humane Society. And in the end, It's not the years in your life that counts, It's the life in your years. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
