Born: Apr 30, 1923
Date of Passing: Feb 04, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOYCE M. SALES (nee CURTIS) (April 30, 1923 - February 4, 2005) On February 4, 2005, at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, Joyce M. Sales died of complications from an aneurysm that she had last November. Joyce was predeceased by her first husband Malcolm McDiarmid; her second husband Eric Sales and her brother Dud. Those family left to remember the goodness of Joyce are her son Bob; her granddaughter Morgan (Ian) of Winnipeg and grandson Kristofer (Elle) in Tasmania, Australia. Also surviving Joyce are her brothers, Sid and Stafford; nieces, Barb, Joy, Linda and Sharon and nephews, Dave and Sidney. A professional floral designer (owner of McDiarmid Flowers through the 1940's until the mid 1980's), Joyce's artful arrangements graced the dining and living room tables of Winnipeg homes bringing charm, character and warmth to settings of glamour and celebration. Wedding bouquets however, were her specialty, prized by those who carried them and by those who caught them in the age-old tradition. Joyce was a woman of independence, substance and style, a good woman who gave of herself fully through artistry, and did so with an abundance of compassion and serenity. Most especially she took strength from her family while also putting stock in her own strength to pull her through the sometimes daunting struggles of her own passage. We who loved her are richer for the days she touched each one of us with her smile, her sense of humour and her understanding ways. It was not hers to question why, but more to be beside us, pushing-gently-from behind. Joyce had many friends at the Adamar Manor where she lived. She particularly enjoyed the fellowship of the shuffleboard group there and enjoyed getting together with neighbours in the block for lunch and outings. Joyce also has many friends at Rockwood Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans of Canada Unit 303. She was a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary there. A memorial service for Joyce will be held at Thomson Funeral Home on Saturday, February 12 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow at Rockwood Unit 303 Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Club, 341 Wilton St. A private interment will follow at a later date. The Family asks that friends remember Joyce through gifts to the Deer Lodge Centre to be used for the special needs and entertainment of the veterans there. The Family would like to thank all the health care professionals at the Victoria Hospital and particularly at the Health Sciences Centre that were a part of her care over the past few months. We would especially like to thank Dr. Graham Marchuk, Dr. Wally and all those in the neurological team lead by Dr. Anthony Kaufmann at the Health Sciences Centre and to the very special caring staff on Ward GA-5. Joyce received the BEST CARE that anyone could have wished for. Thank you. We think of Joyce with a line from J.M. Barry: God gave us memories that we might have roses in December.
