JOE SILVER Suddenly, Joe Silver, 85, died February 5, 2005 in Palm Springs, California while on vacation. He was born November 3, 1919 to Jacob and Bertha Silver in Winnipeg. He married Doris (Toffick) on September 18, 1945. He is survived by his wife Doris; daughter Sharon (Gitlin) and son-in-law, Murray of Ottawa; son Brian; daughter-in-law Lorna (Huffman); three grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew and Marnie, all of Calgary; sister Fay (Barsky) of Shreveport, Louisiana and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Bertha; brothers, Barney and Sam; and sister Anne. He served his country overseas for four and one half years during the Second World War with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles regiment. Upon returning to Canada, he joined the Federal public service, where he worked at the Canadian Grain Commission for 37 and one half years. He was actively involved for many years as a member of the Grain Exchange Curling Club and the YMHA. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the exceptional care provided by the doctors and staff of the Desert Regional Medical Centre in Palm Springs, California. Funeral services will be held at the Congregation Etz Chayim Synagogue, 123 Matheson Ave. Please call the Chesed Shel Emes at 582-5088 for the day and time of the funeral. Interment will be at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joe and Doris Silver Endowment Fund at the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University (204) 942-3085.
