MORLEY DAL BRADSHAW Peacefully at home on Sunday, February 6, 2005, Dal passed away. Dal will be lovingly remembered by Violet, his wife of 65 years; his daughters, Wendy, Debbie, and Trudie (Jim Orr), and grandson Jason Stear. Left to remember him also are his brothers, E.M. (Brownie) and Mona Bradshaw, and Mel and Win Bradshaw; brother-in-law Ray Watson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families. Dal was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Hannah Bradshaw; sister Josephine, brother Dan, and sister-in-law Alice. Dal was born on February 25, 1918, in Portage la Prairie, MB. He resided most of his life in Winnipeg with the exception of Vi and Dal's eight years spent in Thunder Bay. Dal and Vi were married in Winnipeg in 1939. Dal proudly served in the Second World War in the R.C.A.F. Bomber Command. It was during this time that Dal formed friendships that were to last a lifetime. After the war, Dal returned to a job at SKF Ballbearings, where he had been employed before the war. There he worked his way through the ranks, finishing his career as a Regional Sales Manager. Retirement in 1979 was the beginning of a new phase of life. During this time Vi and Dal travelled extensively. They visited some of Dal's wartime haunts in England and got to know their English relations. A particular highlight on another trip was their walk along the Great Wall of China. Dal was a gifted artist and craftsman, and many friends and relatives are proud owners of Dal's creations. Dal painted in oils, and one of his finest accomplishments was his first place ribbon won at the Red River Exhibition in 1998. Dal was always busy...fixing and tinkering with just about anything! No task was ever too small. He completed each with patience and enthusiasm. Family and friends always came first with Dal. He loved to be a help to each of his daughters, and was very happy to be a grandpa to Jason. Dal and Vi's cottage at Petersfield was, for many years, a favourite getaway. It was a gathering place for family and friends who enjoyed water skiing, fishing, swimming, and the never ending happy hour. Dal spent one special week each year at the cottage with his good friend, Ed Schmidt; fishing, smoking, and not shaving...heaven! In later years, as life became a little more challenging, Dal still managed to focus on the positive. With Vi's careful attention to his needs, and the help of family and friends, he stayed physically active through exercise and dance classes, and remained sharp with his investment strategies and reading. He was grateful for this support and appreciated the continued involvement in all the activities and family functions he and Vi had enjoyed over the years. Friends and family are invited to join in a Celebration of Dal's life at The Royal Canadian Legion, St. James Branch #4 at 1755 Portage Ave. on Monday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. Appreciated, in lieu of flowers, should friends wish, are contributions to The Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 302 - 171 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1M4.
