GLADYS FORSYTH (nee LONGMUIR) Passing peacefully at home with her family at her side on February 7, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gladys was born March 13, 1927 in St. Boniface, MB to Allan and Marie Longmuir and lived in many different places while growing up - St. Boniface, Hudson Bay, Morris, The Pas and finally settling in Eriksdale when she married Arthur Forsyth in 1948. Together they raised four children in their home in Eriksdale and ran Eriksdale Transfer for many years. Gladys was a lifetime member of the Legion Auxiliary, the St. Erik's Auxiliary and the New Horizons Club. She very much enjoyed participating in community events. She worked for Bob's Variety Store (later The Lucky Dollar Store) and especially enjoyed working with the Keith's - Lundale, Willetts and McLelland. Gladys was an avid gardener - her vegetable and flower gardens were always beautiful - especially her petunias that she started from seed each year. Many happy times were spent in the yard she lovingly tended. In her younger years, she loved to curl. Gladys enjoyed family gatherings of any kind - birthdays, holidays, weekend visits, and especially Annie Forsyth Day. She also enjoyed knitting, crafts, baking, and games with her family. Many vacations over the years with her family and friends - Hertha and Russ Campbell, Ruth and Bud Jeffers and Bertha and Bob Muller - were treasured, as were winters in Arizona and the many friends made along the way. Mom worked tirelessly at all that she did and helped her children in any way she could, never admitting defeat, even when poor health made doing so difficult. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Art; her mother Marie Longmuir; her children: Lynn (Lorne) Boss, Doug Forsyth, Shelley (Lyle) Sigfusson, and Pat (Ken) Stefanyshyn; her siblings: Pauline Lundale, Ralph (Anne) Longmuir, Allan Longmuir, Raymond (Cindy) Longmuir, Dorothy (Paul) Bilodeau, and Bob (Pat) Longmuir; her grandchildren: Nicole (Randy) Dreger, Derek Boss, Marnie (Richard) Engleberg, Michelle (Blair) Forsyth, Cindy (Dennis) Cruise, Alicia (James) Bennett, Doug Forsyth, Haley Bennett, Brett Stefanyshyn, Carissa Stefanyshyn, and Kelsey Sigfusson; and her great-grandchildren: Amber and Aaron Dreger, Decan Boss, Darian, Emma, and Grace Engleberg, and Ethan Forsyth. She is predeceased by her father Allan Longmuir; her father- and mother-in-law, John and Annie Forsyth; her brothers- and sister-in-law: John Forsyth, Margaret Whitney, Bob Lundale, John Mills, and Len Elfenson. Prayer service will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2005, at the St. Erik's Roman Catholic Church in Eriksdale, MB. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2005, at the Eriksdale Recreational Centre with Father Rene officiating. Service will conclude at the Hall with an interment to follow at a later date in the Eriksdale Cemetery. Thanks to Home Care, Elzette, Sandi, all the doctors and staff at E.M.C., family and friends for all your help and support in being able to keep our Mom home and comfortable.
