Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA BERTHA MURPHY (nee FUNK) May 2, 1905 - February 8, 2005 Peacefully, on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, Anna passed away at the Grace General Hospital, at the age of 99 years. She will always be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Angenora and Patricia; sisters, Margaret McKenzie of Don Mills, ON and Emma Vollrath of Medford, Oregon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.S.A. Anna was predeceased by her husband Cornelius Vanderbilt in 1947; three brothers and four sisters. Anna was born in Weyburn, SK, the third eldest of 10 children of the late August and Bertha Funk. She grew up in Gretna, MB. In later years, Anna knitted baby afghans as a donation for the Children's Hospital. She will be remembered for her strength, cheerful, positive attitude, independent and nurturing person who was always caring and compassionate no matter the circumstances. Anna leaves a legacy of wonderful memories for all to share. Mother enjoyed the summers in Sandy Hook at 4th Avenue. In compliance with Anna's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. However, a family graveside service will be held at a later date. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Brookside Cemetery. Our family would like to sincerely thank the staff on Floors 2 and 4 at the Grace Hospital. In lieu of flowers, in Mother's honour, acknowledge her life by doing good deeds, helping someone as she did or donations in her memory may be made to the Children's Hospital of Winnipeg Foundation Inc., CE 501 - 840 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1S1 or the Firefighters Burn Fund Inc., 303 - 83 Garry St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4J9. You were always there When we needed you, No task too great or small. With a loving heart and a willing hand, For us you did it all. Thanks for the years you gave us, And for the times we shared.
