Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHIRLEY GERALDINE RUTH STEWART (nee WARD) 1921 - 2005 Peacefully on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at the age of 83 years Shirley passed away at the Concordia Hospital. Shirley was born in Winnipeg but resided on the family ranch at Erinview until she left to attend the Provincial Normal School in Winnipeg. She began her teaching career in Stony Mountain where she met her future husband Len Walker. They lived in Stony Mountain, Manitou, Virden and Souris as Len was a Station Agent for the CPR. After Len's passing, Shirley married Ewen Lachlan (Ly) Stewart and they made their home in Winnipeg. After Ly passed away Shirley lived in her own home until having to go into hospital. Shirley was a very active person keeping in touch with her school chums, her chums she met during Normal School, as well as various friends met over the years. Shirley loved nature and spent many happy hours in her yard and garden enjoying all aspects of nature. She was a born naturalist feeding the birds and taming her squirrels. She loved her cats and provided a warm protective home for them. Shirley travelled extensively in Europe and Canada and always dreamed of going on an African Safari. Shirley was a good neighbour and a compassionate friend. Shirley is survived by her stepdaughter Mary Ellen Lindsay of Winnipeg; stepson Leonard Walker (Hannah) of North Vancouver, BC; brother Frank Archie and Irene Ward of Duncan, BC; nephews, Barry Ward of Yellowknife, NT, Lloyd (Mary) Moore of Winnipeg; niece Jo-Ann (Al) Mackie of Surrey, BC; and all their families. She is also survived by many cousins, close friends and neighbours. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Johanna Ward; sister Leona (Nonie) and brother-in-law Bruce Moore and her husbands, Len Walker and Ly Stewart. The family wishes to thank Dr. Doermer and the staff on 3W for the compassionate care of Shirley, and the support the family received at the Concordia Hospital. At Shirley's request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 19, at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance, with close friends Doug Moore and Henry Main officiating. Interment at Erinview Cemetery will take place at a later date.
