HARVEY JAMES WALKER November 25, 1941 - February 8, 2005 It is with heavy hearts that we announce his sudden and unexpected death after a year's struggle with multiple myeloma. He has gone to a better place where he has no more pain. Harvey was born at the Misericordia Hospital to George and Anastasia (Nellie) Walker; who predeceased him as well as Patricia, his first wife, who died in 1966 when their son Patrick was two weeks old. He grew up in Brooklands and often spoke of the great times he had despite not having a lot of money. From a young age he did heavy labour to earn pocket money. This gained him the nickname of Muscles . Harvey was a special man; tough on the outside but soft and caring underneath. This showed when Sandy needed care, he did dressings or whatever was needed. The best example was when Bear, the grand dog came over. He was the soft touch for treats and chases around the dining room. Harvey had many diverse loves: Sam (his soul mate), Patrick, reading old technical books, model railroading (he was a talented scratch builder), Duluth Missabe Railroad and the annual conventions, the Whiteshell in the fall, duck hunting, all the nurses at CancerCare, listening to the radio, old country music, train trips, rocking in the veranda, Sandy's A.F.M. family, the Garwood Grill and our good neighbours. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 35 years Sam (Sandra); son Patrick; grand dog Bear; brother Brian (Marlene) of Victoria; nephew Terry and niece Carolyn (Kevin) of Victoria; mother-in-law Kay O'Shaughnessy; special cousins, Ron and Brenda McDonell ( love you lots ) and the whole Fedak clan; special friends, Roberta Coulter, Heather and Art Mitchell, Loretta and Juergen Hartmann, Bert and Lorie Rous, Kerry and Bill Mushumanski, who got us through with calls, hugs, perogies, meals and love. Words are insufficient to thank you. Thank you to Winnipeg Ambulance, Fire and Paramedics, the E.R. at the Health Science Centre who worked so valiantly for Harvey and with great compassion for the family. Special thanks to Dr. David Wiseman, Dr. J. Johnston and all the nurses in chemotherapy at CancerCare. They are truly angels on this earth. A special thanks also to Erin Elphee, R.N. for always being there. Harvey's illness was a trial for him and kept him from all the activities he loved. He was anxious to get back to his business - Spra-Away which he operated for 12 years as well as work for Cimbria Canada - Brad and Rod: Harvey enjoyed your visits and friendship. My Darling Hoppy We had 35 wonderful years of memories. You are my kindred spirit. I will love you and miss you forever. Love Sam God be with you 'til we meet again. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 16 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to CancerCare Manitoba Chemotherapy Unit, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. A cure is needed so no more loved ones are taken.
