Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) TKACHUK July 4, 1919 to February 7, 2005 Peacefully on Monday, February 7, 2005, with friend Eugene Romanec by his side, Bill Tkachuk, age 85 years, passed into the presence of his Lord at Seven Oaks Hospital. Bill was born July 4, 1919 in the village of Tomachiw in Western Ukraine. He spent his youth there and met his future wife Irena, whom he married on February 12, 1939. At the onset of the Second World War he was conscripted into the Russian Army, after which he was transferred to the Polish Army and finally the British Army; fighting in Africa, The Middle East and Italy. After his discharge from the army, he came to Canada. Because of the war and the communist regime in the Ukraine, he was separated from his wife and son for 48 years. He saw his son for the first time on Father's Day 1974. He spent the next 50 years trying to bring his family to Canada. On March 13, 1989, their dream was realized and his wife was at last able to join him. When he came to Canada, he worked as a farm hand in Hyas, SK, for the CN Railway, the Winnipeg Arena and finally at the Post Office, retiring on July 3, 1983, after 23 years of service. While living in Hyas, he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. Bill was an active and dedicated member of the Winnipeg Ukrainian Baptist Church. He especially enjoyed singing in the church choir and the fellowship of many friends. He was predeceased by his wife Irena on October 3, 2003. He leaves to cherish his memory son Petro (Helena) in the Ukraine; sister Maria Zinchuk and her family also in the Ukraine; and many dear friends. A special thank you to the 3U5 and 3U6 nursing staff of Seven Oaks Hospital and Dr. Gorski. Funeral services will be held at Knysh Funeral Chapel on Monday, February 14 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Tkachuk officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. KNYSH FUNERAL CHAPEL 1020 Main Street 582-0973
