LAURENCE ROGER STUDNEY
Born: Apr 14, 1926
Date of Passing: Feb 08, 2005
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAURENCE ROGER STUDNEY It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Laurence Studney on February 8, 2005 at the St. Boniface Hospital. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Betty; his sons, Robert, James (Alice) and Douglas; daughters, Shirley (Jo-Anne) and Kathy (Victor); four much loved grandchildren, Laura, Glenn, Eric and Matthew and sisters, Jeanette and Penny. Laurence was born April 14, 1926 in Winnipeg, the only son of Stanley and May Studney. His first job was as a board marker at the Winnipeg Grain Exchange, which he left in 1943 to join the Navy. He served as a radar operator on corvettes in the North Atlantic. Most of his working life was spent in the hotel business, in a variety of places; Brandon, Dauphin, Portage la Prairie, Red Lake Ontario and Winnipeg. Two interests in particular were sources of much enjoyment for Laurence. Yearly wilderness canoe trips with his three sons in the Canadian Shield country of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario have left many vivid memories. As well, a lifelong love of reading was not diminished by the onset of blindness. The availability of audiobooks, many provided by the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, ensured his reading enjoyment continued. Both interests are evident in Laurence's children and grandchildren. We would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Ward A6, for their care and compassion for both Laurence and our family. We would also like to thank Dr. A. G. Jowett for all his patience and understanding over the years, and a special thanks to Mel from Home Care who made Laurence's life a little bit easier. Cremation has taken place and at Laurence's request no formal service will be held. A private family gathering will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements. 775-2220.

Our sincere condolencrs go out to Betty and the family.. I knew Laurence as Lorne. We were both hired by Reliance Securities (Gordon Hotels) at the same time and had much association until I moved to Snow Lake, MB in 1967 and Alberta in 1970. I would hear about Lorne from mutual acquaintances from time to time after that. I always considered him a friend.
