JOHN CHARLES STONEMAN June 22, 1921 - February 10, 2005 The family wishes to announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father and grandfather at Concordia Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are beloved wife of almost 58 years Olga; children, Tannis, Paula (Roddie), Richard (Elaine), Maureen (Ryan); grandchildren, Teresa, Colette (Dan), Jeff, Stacey, Kevin, Lindsay, Ryan, Bradley, Kristina, Mark; great-grandchild Madisen (AKA Mazda ). Jack will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Betty (Duane), Lil (Brian), Carol (Vic); sister-in-law Ella; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Predeceased by his parents; brothers, Gordon and Richard; half-sister Alice; sister-in-law Jean; son-in-law Leonard; and a son in infancy. Born in Portage la Prairie to Richard and Alice, he was the second of seven children. At a young age, he joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, landing on Juno Beach on D-Day. After the Second World War, he married Olga in 1947 and began working at Western Grocers. Jack quickly changed careers and served as a dedicated Police Officer with the WPS from November 1, 1948 until his retirement June 27, 1981. Stoney always spoke fondly of his many years walking the beat and in his latter years, working at Station Duty. After his retirement, he looked forward to his monthly breakfasts with the gang . Jack was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #215. He enjoyed camping (especially with the grandkids), fishing, curling, golfing and puttering around his garage. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Concordia Hospital for their kind care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba. We love you and will always miss you!
