Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID WILLIAM JOSEPH HOGUE July 7, 1944 - February 8, 2005 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of David Hogue, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, at the age of 60. David is lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Sandra; daughters, Alanna (Joe) Aiello, Elsie Ann (Aaron) Thomas and Dodie (Scott) Carleton; grandchildren, Stephen and Jarod Thomas and Julia and Katie Carleton; brothers, Victor (Selena), Ralph (Liz), Jack (Colleen), Martin (Shawna); sisters, Jeanette (Kari) Lamblin, Yvette (Wayne) Lavallee, Lucille (Garry) Nelson, Louise (Bob) Chetyrbok, Therese (Bruce) Flinta; brother-in-law Brad (Laurie) Goodridge; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Marie Hogue; and his parents-in-law, Bruce and Elsie Goodridge. David was born in Eriksdale, MB and grew up on his parents' farm in the La Fontaine district east of town. David left school after grade 11 to find a job and help support his family. He was quick to learn and eager to work, and began what would be a series of jobs working on drill rigs all over Canada and the United States. He tried his hand at a trucking business for a few years, but it kept him away from his family too much. When offered a job with Ford Drilling in Matlock, he saw the opportunity for new challenges and more time at home. In 1990, he began a new career with Manitoba Hydro, working as an operator/driver on construction and underground crews. David and Sandra raised their three daughters in Eriksdale. Family time was precious, weekends would find him playing guitar and singing his favourite tunes with the kids, organizing an impromptu horseshoe tournament (which he usually won), or continuing his reign as B.S. king at family Balderdash games. Alanna, Elsie Ann and Dodie want the world to know, We had the greatest dad in the world. He was fearless, with a need to understand and experience everything life had to offer and he shared that with his daughters. He raised his girls to believe that they could do and be anything. When his daughters provided him with sons-in-law, he couldn't be happier, he had a guaranteed golf foursome and curling team. Next to family, Dave's love was sports. Baseball, hockey, golf, curling, if there was a game to be played, Dave was there. His moves at short stop and in goal are local legend. He played goal for the Eriksdale Mustangs until he was well into his 40s, and for the past several years played seniors slowpitch with the Westlake Brewers around the province and in the United States, and brought home the gold, silver and bronze. Dave also took great pride in his home and yard. He and Sandra could be found in the garden in the summertime, and creating award-winning Christmas light displays in the winter. Their marriage even survived the construction of a new screened-in patio. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, cheering on Stephen and Jarod at sports tournaments with video camera in hand, making scrambled eggs Sunday mornings with Julia, stretching out on the floor beside baby Katie to get his fill of her smiles. A celebration of Dave's life will be held Tuesday, February 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eriksdale Recreation Centre, Eriksdale. Rev. Melanie Kauppila will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date. Special thanks to Aaron, Barrett, Ryan, Jamie and the construction crews working out of Manitoba Hydro Steinbach Service Centre, and Chaplain Larry and the staff and ambulance crew at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach for their efforts and compassion. To honour Dave's love of sports, in lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Eriksdale Community Club, Box 320, Eriksdale, MB R0C 0W0. We miss you, Pops. May your beer be cold and your tee times be many. Arrangements by: ARNASON FUNERAL HOMES LTD. Ashern - Lundar (204) 768-2072
