ERNEST NORMAN (NORM) BAILES It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norm Bailes on February 9, 2005, at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg. His loving, delightful and generous presence will be missed by Pauline, his wife of 62 years; sister Peggy Payne; sons, Alan (Judy), Richard (Velvet) and Paul (Linda), Fern Bailes; grandchildren, Christian, Koren, Cameron, Michelle, Joanna, Matthew, Jonathan, Susie, Kenneth, Megan, Jennifer and Stephanie; and great-grandchildren including, in Winnipeg, Hannah, Stefan and Taylor. Norm will also be missed by his many friends, particularly those at 188 Worthington Ave. Norm was predeceased by his father and mother Ernest and Clara Bailes; sister Winnifred Avery; brother-in-law David Payne and Alison Bailes. Norm was born in 1917 in Winnipeg, MB, and lived his early life in Montreal, PQ, Waskada, MB, Oxbow and Estevan, SK, with high school at Daniel McIntyre in Winnipeg. He worked at Manitoba Commercial College until 1937, spent a short time with H.L. Lewis Accountants, and served as a Lieutenant in the artillery during the Second World War. He enjoyed a successful and satisfying career with the CNR in Winnipeg, Edmonton and Montreal before retiring in 1977 in Winnipeg from the position of Regional Manager, Prairie Division, Purchasing and Materials. Norm was an active member in the Anglican Church, most recently at St. Bartholomew and St. Mary Magdalene. His passions included square dancing, needlework (especially petit point) and golf (his favourite foursomes included his three sons and, when available, grandsons). A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint).
