CARL BENJAMIN MATTHEWS 1919 - 2005 Surrounded by his family, Carl, after a courageous battle with cancer, passed away February 10, 2005, at the Riverview Health Centre. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Caroline; daughter Donna (Peter) Barteski; granddaughter Melanie; son Kevin of Winnipeg; sister Ida Mossop of St. Vital, Edith (Ron) MacMillan of Marquette, MB; brother Earl (Herta) of Armstrong, BC; sisters-in-law, Johanna of Winnipeg and Leona of Moose Jaw, SK; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ben and Hattie Matthews; and brothers, Asa, Neil and Dale. Carl was born December 18, 1919, at Otterburne, MB. In 1924 he moved with his parents to St. Vital, MB. There he received his education at Woodlawn and Norberry schools. From 1941 to 1946, he served with the Canadian Armed Forces overseas. From 1946 to 1981, he was employed with CPR. He took early retirement at the age of 61 years. Cremation has already taken place and at Carl's request, there will be no formal service. Just keep him as you knew him in your memories. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Riverview Health Centre for their kind and compassionate care.
