WARWICK WILLIAM (RICK) SQUIRES It is with great sadness that we, the family of Warwick William Rick Squires announces his passing at the Grace General Hospital on February 11, 2005. Rick was born in London, England on October 31, 1918 and came to Canada with his parents when he was nine months old. His family settled on a farm in Hardisty, AB. Rick developed a keen interest in the R.C.M.P. as he grew and in 1937 applied to serve in the Force. He was accepted but due to times as they were, his name was placed on a lengthy waiting list and it was not until June, 1940 that he was advised he could be taken on the strength of the force. On July 3, 1940 Rick was duly sworn in at Edmonton and sent to Regina for training. His first posting was Moncton, NB, arriving there January 1, 1941. He also served in Ottawa, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and North West Territories. He retired with the rank of Staff Sergeant late in December, 1962. His conduct while serving was Exemplary. Immediately following retirement from the force he became Administrator of Law Enforcement with the Department of Mines and Natural Resources in Winnipeg. A position he held until retiring again in 1979. Having too much time on his hands and not ready to leave the work force completely, he put in an application with the Seniors Job Bureau and took a three week replacement job with MMP Architects. He stayed for eight years. Rick was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy Squires in 1975 and Billy Squires in 1976. Rick was a loving caring husband and father. He made friends easily and was well thought of by all who knew him well for his honesty and wonderful sense of humour. He is survived by his loving wife, Stella; son Gary; sister Eileen Dixon (Phil) of Naniamo, BC; granddaughters, Jennifer Gutoski (Kalon) and Coby Squires; great-grandchildren, Jesse, Amy and Riley; stepson Russ Eastwood and stepgrandchildren, Stephen and Jade of Vancouver; sisters-in-law, Pauline Shumyla and Ethel Shiells. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 15 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
