EDWIN JACOB MATTERN Born in Winnipeg, MB, on October 14, 1920, passed away peacefully into the arms of God at Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock, BC, on Sunday, February 6, 2005. He was predeceased by his sisters, Gertie and Della; and brothers, Walter, Arnie and Ted. Ed leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife of 62 years, Hilda; his daughter Lesley (Randy) Buhr; also sister Dorothy Milford of Calgary; and brother Carl Mattern of Neepawa. He will be sadly missed by many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and by many nieces, nephews and many friends. His wonderful life was marred by two unexpected losses - the untimely death of his only grandchild Cory Hasselfield and his nephew Daniel Milford. Ed lived life to the fullest with remarkable zest and energy. His home and heart were always open to any and all, and his warm hospitality was generously shared within the community in which he lived. Ed worked most of his life in the paper industry, retiring as General Manager of Reed Paper Ltd., on November 1, 1985. Ed and Hilda enjoyed each other's company, were fortunate to travel extensively and shared many hours together in their gardens. As his declining health dictated, Ed and Hilda moved to South Surrey, BC, to share his last 14 months with his daughter and son-in-law. He will always be remembered and never forgotten. A gathering to celebrate Ed's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 19 at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 Kimberley Ave. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
