Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVALENTINO (VAL) ANTONIO GAMBOZ December 23, 1919 - February 12, 2005 With his family at his side and after a courageous battle with cancer, it is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Valentino at the age of 85 years. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Marcella; son John; daughter-in-law Lorna; granddaughters, Julie and Katie; brother Arturo (Evelina) and Olivo in Slovenia; niece Dina (Les); grandniece Katherine; nephew Gino of Trieste, Italy; and numerous relatives and their extended families in Croatia, Italy and Argentina. Val worked on the family farm for many years near Trieste, Italy, then brought his wife and son to Canada in 1957 in search of a better life and settled in Winnipeg. He worked hard in construction and the C.N.R. to support his family before moving on to a rewarding career as a Certified Orderly at the Health Sciences Centre from 1966 to his retirement in 1984. Val was highly respected by the medical staff for his ability to use his sense of humour and calming influence in effectively dealing with patients, especially during his years at the psychiatric ward. He had a great sense of humour and engaging personality as evidenced by his popularity in many family and social gatherings through the years. He was a self-taught handyman and prided himself in being able to tackle almost any project, large or small. Val was always eager and willing to use his varied skills to assist many friends and neighbours, asking for nothing but the opportunity to offer his services. He took great pride in gardening and excelled in producing many great crops of vegetables to get through the long Winnipeg winters. Val enjoyed bowling and bocce and was a dedicated member of the Holy Rosary Church Choir. He was a wonderful dancer and with his beloved Marcella, was often seen joyfully, gracefully and effortlessly traversing a dance floor. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 16 at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding. A private inurnment will follow. Our family offers a heartfelt thank you to all the medical staff, who cared for him during his illness, especially the Oncology staff and the Palliative Care staff of the 5th Floor, Unit 3 in the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Their kind and compassionate care are greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations in Val's memory may be made to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Seven Oaks Palliative Care Unit.
