Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH (BETTY) CAREY, 75, of Grand Forks, died Friday, February 11, 2005, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Betty McLachlan was born on September 24, 1929, to Gordon and Olga (Lynds) McLachlan in Portage la Prairie, MB, Canada. She grew up and graduated high school from Macgregor, MB. Betty moved with her family to Winnipeg, MB, in 1950. She received an A.R.C.T. performance diploma from Toronto Conservatory of Music before becoming a Licentiate of the London Royal Schools of Music. Betty also competed in Manitoba Musical Festival in Winnipeg and won top marks in her class a number of times. She was a winner of Winnipeg Women's Musical Club and the United Scottish Scholarship. She gave piano lessons before and after moving to Winnipeg in 1950. She also worked at Birk's Jewelry Store in Winnipeg. She married Richard "Bud" Folson on September 5, 1952. The couple moved to Hoople, ND, before settling in Grand Forks in 1955. Richard passed away April 6, 1992. On November 24, 1993, she married Douglas Carey. Betty was a 50 year member of the Episcopal Church in Grand Forks. She was also a member of the Thursday Music Club. She volunteered her musical talent for many functions as a piano accompanist with her husband as a violinist. She taught piano for most of her life and was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Betty is survived by husband Douglas Carey of Grand Forks; mother Olga McLachlan of Winnipeg; sister Enid (Craig) Campbell of Peoria, IL; sons, Brent Folson of Jamestown, ND, Bryan (Joyce) Folson of Grand Forks, Barry (Ann) Folson of East Grand Forks, MN; daughters, Cindy (Gene) Olson of Hoople, Sandy (Marty) Cone of Golden, CO, Sharon (Trent) Moore of Helena, MT; 14 grandchildren, six nieces, six nephews and several grand-nieces/nephews. She was preceded in death by father Gordon McLachlan; husband Richard Folson; grandsons, Kurt Olson, Peter Folson. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 15 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 319 - 5th St. S., Grand Forks. Visitation will be Monday, February 14 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service at the Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St. in Grand Forks and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Interment at 2:30 p.m., Hoople Cemetery, Hoople. Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks is in charge of arrangements. www.amundsonfuneralhome.com
