She graduated from Kelvin Technical School and worked as a substitute teacher in order to earn enough money to further her secretarial training. During the war she worked as a stenographer at Fort Osborne Barracks. Following the war she became the private secretary to Dr. George Argue and Mr. Clifford Dick of the International Mortgage and Loan Co. She continued to work after her husband's death. Upon retiring she became more actively involved in the work of Knox United Church, working as church secretary, President of the U.C.W., and she was one of the last of the infamous Knox Mothers' Club. Grandma Jean as she was know to all will be sadly missed by her oldest son Douglas F. Wood and his wife Sadie and their children, Rev. A private family interment will be followed by a memorial service at Thomson Funeral Home on Thursday, February 17 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ellen Wood and Rev. Bill Millar officiating. The family would like to thank the staff and home care people at Kiwanis Courts on Ness Avenue, where she was able to live on her own until August 2004. We also would like to thank Dr. Sheila Domke for her care and concern over the past years. Dr. Domke was not only her doctor but her friend. In lieu of flowers donations to the Duval Foundation of Knox United Church, 400 Edmonton Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2M2 would be most appreciated. A heart of gold stopped beating. Gentle hands now at rest. No verse, no flowers, no tears can say how much we will miss her everyday. She was a person, oh, so rare... contented at home and cottage and always there. Her life was unselfish, for others she lived, not to receive, but always to give. She gave her love in fullest measure. Care and devotion and memories to treasure. Shared all our hopes, our love and our tears. We will always recall those wonderful years. We will always miss you and love you Grandma Jean. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 Broadway - 783-7211
